Founded in 2022, Rotor Lab is pioneering the future of Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) by providing efficient and reliable electric propulsion solutions, proudly designed and manufactured in Australia. Rotor Lab’s solutions are designed for interoperability across a variety of platforms, offering unmatched flexibility and adaptability in defence operations.
In 2024, Rotor Lab opened a manufacturing facility in Canberra, the nation’s capital, enabling end-to-end production of electric propulsion systems within Australia. Rotor Lab is committed to delivering secure and resilient supply chains for its defence customers and has a strong emphasis on sourcing materials and components from allied countries and other Australian manufacturers.
Brushless Electric UAS Motors:
Engineered to excel in performance and durability, our UAS electric motors are distinguished by their unmatched robustness, impressive power-to-weight ratio, and superior performance efficiency. Designed for demanding applications, these motors are interoperable across a range of UAS platforms.
Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs):
Our ESCs complement our motors perfectly, ensuring seamless integration and precise control. They are crafted to enhance the overall performance of your UAS and to provide the reliability and efficiency that can be counted on in critical situations. Our ESCs are also DroneCAN enabled, which allows for greater compatibility with other common UAS hardware.
In-House Performance Validation:
Our 36kW bidirectional programmable DC power supply is capable of testing propulsion systems under different UAS energy supply scenarios. This capability allows us to simulate internal resistance, voltage sag and discharge characteristics of a range of power sources such as lithium ion, hydrogen fuel cell and hybrid systems. We record key metrics such as thrust, torque, RPM, electrical power,
system efficiency, temperature and vibration to determine how to maximise the performance of the system.
Endurance and Reliability Testing:
Our components undergo rigorous testing including high thermal/power cycle testing. We can also perform long endurance tests (100> hours) of fully integrated systems.
Custom/OEM Manufacturing:
We can assist in the design and manufacture of custom electric motors and control electronics.
At our Australian facility, we offer a comprehensive suite of capabilities designed to deliver superior UAS propulsion systems, including:
We offer a streamlined design, manufacture, and delivery process tailored to your needs, with a robust Australian presence and readiness to collaborate with both local and international companies or agents, ensuring efficient development at every stage.
